If you have a name server (DNS) in your network, you don
Most E-mail packages can use a IP-number to specify a server, but doing so may
also cause trouble - so we recommend you to use a HOST file as described
below.
Simply create a file and name it HOSTS (without extension).
It should contain just one single line:
192.168.0.1 Mailgate
with a space between IP and Mailgate and the line terminated
with CR (carriage return)
The IP-number is the server IP-number, i.e. the number that you entered into
the System setup - Network -tab. The name Mailgate, is arbitrary, it can be anything as long as it does not already exist in
your HOST files.
Copy this file to the C:\WINDOWS directory, or wherever Windows95 is
installed. If using NT, put the file in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
You can use this same file and copy it to each of your users on the network.
If a hosts file already exists, just add the line above to the current one.
